Lightcast recommends: Live Encoders

One of the great advantages of the LightcastOVP is that you can use any standard live encoder on the market to ingest your live-streams into the LightcastCDN for instant multi-platform distribution. Almost all current live-encoders on the market today are compatible with our system. But Lightcast also partners with selected manufacturers, and today we would like to point out our recommended hardware encoder: the new Pearl 2 by epiphan.

Starting in the mid 5-figure range, the Pearl 2 is fully 4K capable and perfect for midsize to larger demands. It can handle all your desired bitrates and output numerous qualities for bitrate-adaptive delivery. It is robust and can handle pressure. The touch screen allows you to easily navigate through your settings, making configuration and trouble-shooting a breeze if you know the basics of live-streaming.

It also allows to connect multiple A/V sources, to program different layouts (such as picture-in-picture) and to switch between input channels. It may not replace a full live-production switcher, but its web interface is easy enough to use and it provides a decent switching option between camera and computer inputs for small setups.

The live-encoder is ideal for houses of worship, music and theater venues, studios and live-production environments. It comes in two sizes: the compact Pearl 2 perfectly, suited for mobility and live-broadcasts “on the road”, and the two Pearl-2 Rackmount versions - ideal for permanent installation in 19 inch rack systems.

Lightcast.com partners with epiphan and officially recommends Pearl and Pearl-2 hardware encoders. Contact us for a custom quote and exclusive discount for Lightcast Customers.
